In 1978, Eivor had just moved to the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband Tom. They were pregnant with their first child, a boy, and she had been due with him on Christmas Day. Several days later, being completely ready to have the incessently-kicking baby out in the world, she took a stroll through UC Berekley's beatiful Botanical Gardens.
Right after her visit, she went into labor! The next day, on New Year's Eve, she gave birth to her son Kevin. For the rest of her life, she adamently gave credit the beauty and peacefulness of the gardens for sending her into labor, and was forever grateful for that!
Many years later, when her son Kevin and his wife Kirsten were pregnant with their first son, Eivor insisted that they visit the gardens to inspire a similar result. Their son didn't come for a few weeks after that, so she concluded that the gardens had a special place in their spirit for her, and her alone.
With that, we couldn't think of a more appropriate place to pay tribute to the beautiful, kind, giving and adventurous Eivor Baillie. May she rest in peace, and her memory outlast even the massive trees that her name now lies beneath.
We love you, Mom.
